Please do the following before you decide to buy old domain:
1. Check domain PageRank at checkpagerank.net, a good domain have valid pagerank, it will be great if you get PR2 or 3 domain. Also check domain history at the bottom of the page, you will see what’s for this domain before.
2. Check at google, make sure it’s indexed, sometimes a domain have high PR but it’s banned by google because some reasons such scamming and stuff like that.
3. Check it’s backlink at http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/, more backlinks to domain more great
